The Digest in Nottinghamshire
A couple of weeks ago, A rescue centre in Nottinghamshire received numerous offers to rehome a litter of puppies discovered abandoned in the woods, near Mansfield Woodhouse. Mansfield Wildlife Rescue initially worried that the litter might have been abandoned, due to being a type of XL bully breed. However, DNA testing revealed they are a mix of Belgian Malinois and Staffordshire bull terrier, meaning the puppies can be safely rehomed!
Nottinghamshire County Council has launched the Nottinghamshire Observatory, a free resource providing up-to-date local data, stats, and trends. It aids research, funding bids, and investment attraction by offering search functionality covering various themes like economic trends and health insights. Access to county-wide or specific district, ward, and neighbourhood data and generation of high-quality charts, graphs, and maps.
Mansfield's Palace Theatre is experiencing a resurgence in visitor numbers, marking its second consecutive year of growth post-pandemic. In the 2023/24 financial year, over 99,000 tickets were sold, with the annual pantomime, Beauty and the Beast, nearly selling out at 98%. Ticket sales are now hitting 99,035 in 2023/24, up from 90,865 in the previous year. The Palace Theatre is appealing to audiences from Mansfield District and beyond, catering to all age groups and it’s a great boost for the area!
Gedling Borough Council is taking action to support bees and pollinating insects by planting over five acres of wildflower meadows and 9,000 trees across the area. The council's initiative stems from a motion passed in January 2021, addressing the harmful effects of herbicides and pesticides on pollinators.
Attendance at council-run leisure centres in Nottinghamshire has bounced back stronger than ever after the pandemic. In 2020/21, only 148,579 people visited, but by 2023/24, the number rose to 1,153,000. That's a remarkable increase! Income across the sites also exceeded expectations, reaching £1,356,000, which was £72,000 above target. Great news for the community's fitness and well-being!
