The Digest in Nottinghamshire
On Sunday, May 5th, fundraiser Des Oldham organized a guided walk through Nottingham to support the children’s charity Footprints. Starting at Victoria Embankment, participants contributed £15 to the cause, receiving perks like a Footprints t-shirt and a goody bag. Great Job to all involved!
Since 2017, the Forget-Me-Notts project has been providing mattresses, bed frames, and bedding to families in Nottinghamshire. However, Operation Orphan, the charity behind it, is facing challenges in meeting demand, with 40 families on its waiting list. Referrals from social services have increased in the past two years, while donations from local sources have decreased. Barnardo’s, a children’s charity, reports that approximately one million children in the UK are currently experiencing bed poverty.
Leanne and Ryan, whose daughter passed away 30 days after birth, have raised thousands to support other premature babies. Their mission is to provide hundreds of Miniboos, comforting cloth items, to babies at Nottingham's hospitals. These Miniboos made a significant difference for their baby Rosie, offering soothing scents of parents even within an incubator.
Extra Beats
Nottingham just wrapped up a £7m project, swapping over 36,000 street lights with energy-efficient LEDs. Starting in July 2022, Sherwood and Clifton got the first upgrades, followed by St Ann’s, the Meadows, and the Dales. Alongside, subway and signage lights got a facelift too. These new lights are part of Nottingham City Council's push to make the city carbon-neutral by 2028.
Attenborough Cricket Club spearheaded a community-driven project, securing approximately £25,000 with backing from Nottinghamshire County Council and the England and Wales Cricket Board. This funding facilitated the expansion of their clubhouse, notably adding a new changing area exclusively for the Attenborough Starlings team of women and girls. Adding a personal touch, the team decorated the new space themselves!
Forest Points Deduction Appeal Rejected - Nottingham Forest have failed with an appeal against their four-point punishment for breaching Premier League profit and sustainability rules. They will remain on 29 points, just above the relegation zone.
