Forage & Nibble 🌿

River Trent Ramble 🌿

Join Lucy, The Nottingham Forager, for a walk along the River Trent, meeting at The Embankment Pub near Trent Bridge. Hunt for fungi, flowers, and foliage, learning safe and sustainable harvesting. The 1.5-hour walk, mostly on paths, welcomes all ages and dogs. Departure from the pub at 12, back around 1:30. Don't miss out!

Inkbolt Comic Book Festival 📖

The Digest in Nottinghamshire

Exciting news for Nottinghamshire! A £1.4 million funding grant has greenlit the ambitious project to revitalize Newark Castle. Currently home to a park and garden within its partially demolished interior, the castle is poised for a stunning makeover. Plans include reopening the gatehouse with enhanced accessibility features like ramps, along with new galleries and viewing areas. With the lottery fund grant secured, work is slated to commence later this year on this historic riverside gem, with completion anticipated within two years. Get ready to witness the transformation unfold!

Big news for digital arts students! Nottingham Trent University is investing £1.3 million in cutting-edge technology inspired by Disney's The Mandalorian. This state-of-the-art virtual production suite is set to be one of the most advanced in the UK, boasting a massive 30-foot-wide and 13-foot-tall LED screen, alongside top-notch sound and camera systems. NTU aims to solidify its position as a global leader in digital arts with this groundbreaking investment. The new tech will find its home in the university's upcoming design and digital arts building, slated to open its doors in Nottingham city centre this September 2024.

Exciting news for West Nottinghamshire College! They've just been approved for a major expansion in the former Mansfield Debenhams store. The empty space in the Four Seasons shopping centre will soon house ten new classrooms, catering specifically to adult learners. With student numbers on the rise at their Derby Road campus, this expansion couldn't come at a better time, ensuring the college can continue to accommodate its growing community of learners.

An urgent plea from a prominent councillor to curb vandalism and anti-social behaviour in Newark-on-Trent!In recent weeks, several visitor attractions, including Sconce and Devon Park and Newark Library, have fallen victim to criminal damage. The community is urged to unite against these destructive acts, preserving the beauty and safety of their beloved town.

The Times and Sunday Times recently unveiled their prestigious list of the Best Places to Work in 2024, and several local companies have earned their spot, including Bird & Blend.

Toys R Us is Returning to Nottingham - As part of a partnership with WH Smith, Toys R Us will open inside the shop, in the Victoria Centre. It will be very interesting to see how this once-huge shop fits into WH Smith. The expect to open this over Summer.

Civil News 🏛️

Newark and Sherwood District Council Cancel Leisure Centre Plans - Unfortunately, disagreements between the Southwell Leisure Centre Trust and the council caused delays. At a recent cabinet meeting, councillors decided to pull back the allocated funds due to ongoing issues. This decision comes after the main swimming pool on Nottingham Road closed last October due to a leak. With the council now managing the centre, they've tentatively approved the idea of building a new pool.

The Chief Executive of Nottingham City Council has announced he is leaving to take up a new role as Chief Executive of Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing, one of the largest and most innovative housing associations in the country.

Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham Forest FC set to sign up to a new partnership agreement to benefit the local community and boost the economy.
